The AmendmentsThe 1st amendment gives the freedom to practice your beliefs such as church, freedom of speech, freedom of writing, the right to peaceably gather and also gives the right to request.
The 2nd amendment states that the United States has a well ordered army, being necessary to the protection of a free State, the right of the people to keep and have guns, shall not be taken away. The 3rd amendment says no soldier shall, in time of peace be housed in any house unless in a time of war. The 4th amendment does not allow unreasonable searches and invasion and requires any warrant to be lawfully allowed and supported by reasonable belief that someone has committed a crime. The 5th amendment says that no person is required to testify against himself/herself in a criminal case and no person have a trial a second time when already tried previously. The 6th amendment guarantees the right to a trial by jury in criminal cases. The 7th amendment guarantees trial by jury. The 8th amendment guarantees reasonable bail, fines, and punishment. The 9th amendment says that the rights of the people can not be denied or taken away. The 10th amendment balances the power of the federal government and the states. The 11th amendment prohibits an individual from suing a state government in the federal courts. The 12th amendment provides the procedure for electing the President and Vice President. The 13th amendment abolished slavery and making someone do laboring to benefit someone else. The 14th amendment addresses citizenship rights and equal protection of the laws. The 15th amendment prohibits the federal and state governments from denying a citizen the right to vote based on that citizen's race, color, or previous condition of being a slave/ someone's power over you. The 16th amendment allows the government to collect an income tax from all Americans. The 17th amendment established the election of United States senators by the people of the States. The 18th amendment banned the sale and drinking of alcohol in the United States. The 19th amendment guarantees all American women the right to vote. The 20th amendment sets the dates at which federal government elected offices end. The 21st amendment repealed the 18th amendment that banned the sale and drinking alcohol. The 22nd amendment limited presidential terms to 2. The 23rd amendment extends the right to vote in the presidential election to citizens living in the District of Columbia. The 24th amendment abolished the poll tax for all federal elections. The 25th amendment allows the Vice President to become president in the event of death, resignation, removal from office or becoming unable to do their duties. The 26th amendment says that citizens 18 years of age or older are allowed to vote and shall not be denied. The 27th amendment limits the ability to change the salary of members of Congress until after an election of members of the House of Representatives.
